Graham Smyth discussed all things Leeds United on another episode of Inside Elland Road and talked about their new signing, Jean-Kevin Augustin.
Following a rather impressive stint at RB Leipzig where he managed to score 20 goals and tally eight assists in 67 games played, the 22-year-old Augustin made the switch to Elland Road on loan.
But things haven’t really gone according to plan as injuries and technical decisions have mostly kept him silent in the ongoing season in the Championship and Smyth explained his situation with an amusing analogy.
Here’s what he said on Inside Elland Road podcast (27/2/2020): “Big Kev came in very exciting, expensive, shiny and new. Can’t wait to see him in action. Because our old toys just don’t cut it anymore. And then you only get to see him for a very short period of time. And then he gets broken in training, which is not a competitive game. It’s disappointing for everyone.”
With only three appearances to his name for Leeds ever since his arrival from RB Leipzig, it’s pretty safe to say that Augustin’s situation is quite disappointing for all parties involved. And yes, injuries have taken a toll on the player but seeing how he’s still very young and very much developing, there is still hope that the Whites get the best out of him should they make a deal permanent.
Their shiny new toy might not be the centre of attention as much as it used to be but he’s certainly not broken just yet.
